April 30 Last Day National Poetry Month

The bones under "worn"
Dust defining "sunset red"

Straight spine sustains a mantel of mourning

Still she takes your breath away
I call her Beauty Everywhere

or Eve, just Eve.

April 29

She's marking up the Book
pencil ticks
tiny
in the margins

less assessment
than crumbs
showing where she's been

 and audacity
 that's God's

in the point
of a pen.

April 28

Leaving old ways
arteries gradually diverge
into capillaries

mending themselves
into veins, finding a way

back to the beat
beat again heart

casually insisting
whatever's good

can
hemorrhage.

April 27

Names
scrimshawed onto paper

Promises tattooed with a stick into sand

Faith
relentlessly
mouths assurance

Through terrifying intersections of flesh
and truth

So still
somehow
love's
understood.

April 26

She called it instrumental
percussive thunder
cadence drilling on the roof
misty white noise paradiddle

the perfect improvisational splatter

and yes,
she sang like a bird.

April 25

Perched alone
hollow-boned
at the wall
she hauled every-blessed-thing
she thought should be hers
up and over
the ledge

then flew over Gehenna.

April 24

She read the prayer,
imagined obsequious volume
proper to the font,
capitals and punctuation(!),

guardedly tested
AMEN
(point two font only),

deafening the room.

April 23

Giving the gate
a side-of-the-foot boot
she shook-screamed its blind-deafness

sauntered away

head up

angry resilience
not a path, not anything
but direction.

April 22

Ripping away
what's longed for
from what's given

first day of a new life

what you leave
evaporating
from who you are.

April 21

Skin

Keeps in
Holds out
Shivers and sweats
Scars tug and twist the bones

Body and soul's embrace
still never
touches.

April 20

Frictionless
doesn't occur to gales
or hail
or prayer's aegis.

It exists in the calm
still vast lake

of after-ness.

April 19

Heat and smoke filled choice
Insatiable need intersects
MUST
and CAN'T

What happens when faith
Suddenly swallows

All fear.

April 18

She burned regret
water pail nearby.

Staying long after ashes
she hauled her tears home

to warmly wash.

April 17

Unchanging Rock
pale arms uplifted

eons of binding and loosing
echoing pleas

not looking down
reflecting above.

April 16. Sixteen words for NA PO MO

The good oath tumbled
around her mouth.

Tasting words: I will
forgive.

Both blood and bread.

April 15

Left in nothing and nowhere land
you brace
for savage simoon
hope for silent sun.

April 14

Hills fall to water,
emptiness content with erosion,
still
the shoreline stands eternal.

April 13 of NA PO MO (National Poetry Month)

Edge of the world
over and gone.

Memory of glaciers,
wait of undertow.

April 12

Her absent heart awoke
years later
remembering that image
that perfect truth.

April 11

Bicycles wheeled to class
balance fierce and tipsy
students
going nowhere

April 10

Curiosity created her own calamities
Casually insisting Eve was smart.

 One testy word thrown.

  Eye to eye,
fear
pauses.

death's perfume

NA PO MO National Poetry Month

Hello hello, no, I've not forgotten the oft disremembered NA PO MO. Beginning slowly, as I did last year, I allow myself each day only the number of words in the calendar day and a photo. The first three days follow:
